"In the past we have gotten escalations from cases where we change the user's query plan due to a correctness fix, and the new plan is much more expensive to the point where it becomes an availability problem e.g. SERVER-83524. This seems like the type of change we'd want to (temporarily, I hope) flag-gate and incrementally roll out, just in case some people are relying on the old (and yes, wrong) behavior."
