      checkpoint_progress is already verbose by default:

      // Enable WiredTiger progress messages.
cfg << "recovery_progress:1,checkpoint_progress:1,compact_progress:1";

      We might want to consider enabling verbose for checkpoint and checkpoint_cleanup to have more feedback from wiredtiger in cases where checkpointing may be delayed.
