It would be nice to have a tool—possibly integrated into mongoretore, or maybe a separate binary—that reports the contents of a mongodump archive: which namespaces are included, their indexes, possibly a tally of documents, etc.

The output format can be JSON (at first, at least).

This should live in mongodb-labs and vendor mongo-tools in.
