Improve failure detection in test/format script

      sue.loverso@mongodb.com has a few failure detection techniques that she used in her format script that we should consider porting to the format.sh script, which is employed by WT Evergreen testing. 

      • It looks for the word successful at the end of the run.
      • It compares the core files that exist at the beginning and end of the run and fails if a new core file exists.
      • It is trivial to edit the script and add in specialized output grep/detection of specific errors.
