We have encountered cases where recovering after an unclean shutdown succeeds, but MongoDB databases are not in the expected state. It would be useful in those cases to have the older log files remain available for detailed analysis.

I suggest that we disable log archiving for the checkpoint that is written during recovery. That way the log files should remain available for analysis longer.
