      A change in WT-4655 (Avoid C and C++ compiler incompatibilities) has a bug, the CC value isn't quoted and so the {{CC} environment variable can break autoconfiguration.

      The symptom is an error message during configuration:

      ./configure: line 4764: test: too many arguments
