      Motivated by the seemingly endless environment-specific and platform-specific special-casing required to accomodate the non-conforming absence of aligned_alloc since its introduction in https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-c-driver/pull/1072 (CDRIVER-4434) despite supposedly proper feature macro checks.
